Author of a hostage-taking on a train in western Switzerland was "mortally injured" during the assault. The people he was holding were released unharmed, police said.

The attacker is believed to be a 32-year-old Iranian “asylum seeker’s” motivations are not known. The police were alerted by the latter and the negotiations with the hostage taker took place in part via an interpreter speaking Farsi, the majority language in Switzerland. The driver of the train was forced to leave his post and join the others passengers.
