Sweden hopes to succeed in lifting the Turkish veto to enter NATO thanks in particular to the support of the United States. A new action by pro-Kurdish activists has provoked the anger of Ankara.
This is the same group that hung an effigy of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan by its feet in January. The U.S. wants Sweden to join NATO by the next NATO summit in Vilnius on July 11 and 12, shortly after the accession of neighboring Finland.
