[HIGHLIGHTS] Statement from the Chinese Consumers Association regarding the red yeast rice issue: “Stop consuming it and cooperate with the recall”

The Consumers Association, which is under the jurisdiction of a Chinese government agency, has reported that people who ingested health foods containing Kobayashi Pharmaceutical's "Red Yeast" developed kidney disease. China called on people to stop consuming the product, and announced that it would stop selling it and conduct a voluntary recall.

So far, there have been no known cases of people developing illness after consuming the affected products in mainland China, but there is growing interest in China as well, with state-run media reporting on the issue every day.
