Sri Lankan police have begun an investigation into the incident with tourists from Russia. Three Russian tourists were harassed by staff at the Rainbow Surf Beach Hotel on the night of February 15.
The girls flew to Russia without filing a statement with the police. Earlier, the Russian Embassy called on citizens living in Sri Lanka to return to their homeland amid increasing incidents on the island against Russians. The Russian Embassy considered it necessary to contact the Sri Lankan Foreign Ministry and urge the competent authorities to pay attention to the unacceptable nature of what happened.
