Spain's left-wing government on Thursday adopted a package of measures worth more than two billion euros to combat drought and water scarcity. Of this total of some €2.19 billion, just under two-thirds (€1.4 billion) will be used to build new infrastructure.

The remaining €784 million will be devoted to multifaceted support for agriculture, almost half of which will support livestock and milk producers. This plan was adopted just over two weeks before municipal and regional elections where the theme of water became central.
