Half of all South Koreans live in the metropolitan region, which has the lowest birth rate in the country. The now inaugurated section of the first line will shorten the travel time between the Seoul district of Suseo and the satellite city of Dongtan from 80 minutes by bus to 19 minutes by the new subway.
