Somalia expels Ethiopian ambassador, accused of “interfering” in its internal affairs. Somalia ordered, on Thursday April 4, the expulsion of the Ethiopian ambassador and the closure of two of its consulates in Somalia.

Historically stormy relations between the two countries were further strained earlier this year. Ethiopia signed a memorandum of understanding with Somaliland, a region which proclaimed itself independent in 1991, providing for leasing to Ethiopia with 50 kilometers of coastline and allowing Addis Ababa access to the sea.
