Every year, 600 hectares of agricultural land are irretrievably lost in the country by being built on and paved. Since the 60s, over 70,000 hectares have disappeared.
In Uppsala County, the actual rate of exploitation is at its highest in the latest survey. Now the Swedish Board of Agriculture, the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency and the National Expert Council for Climate Change Adaptation want the legal protection of Agricultural land to be strengthened. In Sweden, it is up to each individual municipality to weigh social interests against each other.
