Senegal's Constitutional Council proclaims Bassirou Diomaye Faye president-elect. With 54.28% of the votes in the first round of voting on March 24, he is well ahead of Macky Sall's runner-up, Amadou Ba (35.79%) The Council "has not received any dispute" from the 19 candidates, the third of whom, Aliou Mamadou Dia, received 2.8% of votes.

This is the first time since Senegal's independence in 1960 that an opponent has won in a first round.
