Riyadh and Damascus have decided to resume their diplomatic relations after more than a decade. The decision was taken by the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Arab League.

The Arab League decided in March to resume its meetings with the Syrian government. The move follows the rupture of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 2012. The two countries have been at odds since the start of the Syrian conflict in March 2011. The conflict has claimed the lives of hundreds of thousands of people, many of them children.
