Sandu announced plans for a referendum on Moldova's integration into the EU in October. Sandu also called on members of the Moldovan parliament to begin preparing for the referendum, including carrying out the necessary procedures.
In order to announce a plebiscite, at least a third of the deputies must come up with such an initiative by submitting a request to the Constitutional Court. Earlier, the leader of Gagauzia, Eugenia Gutsul, said that the majority of Moldovan citizens are in favor of not severing ties with Russia.
