Russian opposition politician Ilya Yashin was sentenced to 8.5 years in prison in December. He was found guilty of spreading fake news on social media about what the Russian army was doing in Butya.

SVT News has corresponded with Yashingin, who is in a prison in Moscow. He writes that he is in solitary confinement that he shares with three other prisoners, all convicted of drug offenses. "The days here look the same. I spend most of my time reading books and writing letters and various texts," he writes.
