He is expected to extend his term by another two years if he is re-elected in 2018. The Russian parliament will vote on whether or not to extend Putin's term. The vote will be followed by a referendum on whether to extend the term of the current president. The current president, Vladimir Putin, has been in office since 2000. He won a second term in 2008 after a landslide victory.
