Kremlin announces death of opposition leader Alexei Navalny. The 47-year-old had been serving a prison sentence.

He was convicted of extremism, among other things, for his role in the Russian coup of March 18, 2011. The Kremlin has not commented on the death of the leader of Russia's opposition party, the Dzhokhar of the Russian People's Republic, which has been in power since Vladimir Putin took office in 2000. The death of Navalny was announced by the Kremlin on Friday.
