Putin signed a presidential decree to rebuild the Moscow Military District and the Leningrad Military District. The presidential decree takes effect from March 1.
Documents show that the military administrative division of the Northern Fleet has been included in the newly formed Lenedrad Military district. Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu stated in December 2022 that after Finland and Sweden applied to join NATO, it was necessary to establish the Moscow and Leningad Military District to strengthen Russia’s Military strength in the western border region.
