Philippine President considers holding referendum on whether to revise the constitution. There are also voices of opposition, saying that this is an attempt to ease presidential term limits, which were established in response to the dictatorial regime of his father, the late former President Marcos.
President Marcos has explained that the purpose of amending the constitution is to support economic development by relaxing foreign investment regulations. Under the current constitution stipulates a maximum term of six years, which under the current president would be six years.
