China's Permanent Representative to the UN Zhang Jun said that Beijing voted against Washington's draft resolution on the situation in the Gaza Strip. He stressed that an immediate ceasefire is a fundamental prerequisite for saving lives, expanding humanitarian access and preventing a wider conflict.

According to Zhang Jun, the US draft establishes a precondition for a ceasefire, which is nothing more than a “green light” for the killing to continue. The draft does not contain a clear objection to Israel's plans to carry out an operation in Rafah, added Zhang Jun.
