The law on honour oppression entered into force on 1 June 2022. A year later, the law has not led to a single indictment.

Several investigations into honour oppression have been opened, but closed. The law provides for stricter penalties for already existing minor crimes committed with honour motives – if they occur repeatedly. The minimum sentence will then be one year in prison. The Regional Support Centre in Gothenburg says honour-related crimes are not detected due to a lack of competence in honour issues. The prosecutor's office says about ten investigations are currently underway.
