Indonesia is building a new capital in the middle of the forests of Borneo. Two million people are expected to live there on 560 square kilometers, an area one and a half times the size of Munich.

Nusantara will be a green city, surrounded by rainforest, powered by renewable energy. The first ministries are scheduled to move and the government palace to be inaugurated in 2024 - the same year in which Joko Widodo will step down as president. The project is difficult to separate from Widodo's final days in office.
