Donald Trump's rival for the Republican presidential nomination, Nikki Haley, has asked the Secret Service for protection. Police have been called to Haley's home several times because of so-called'swatting' incidents.

The aim seems to be to use fake emergencies to build up psychological pressure. Trump has publicly denigrated Haley, who continues to refuse to withdraw from the primary election campaign. The Secret Service's main task is to protect the president and his family. But guarding candidates can also be part of the scope of duties, subject to approval.
