Nearly two months after the February 25 presidential election, Nigeria is still plagued by insecurity. In the north-western regions of the country, kidnappings have resumed at a steady pace.

On Tuesday evening, a group of eight girls who had been kidnapped in early April were released after successfully escaping their captors in Kaduna State. According to Nigerian press accounts, at least 125 people have been killed and 60 kidnapped in the state alone since January 2023. Many kidnappings go completely unnoticed, while families are left to negotiate with kidnappers.
