The European Parliament's two competent committees agreed by a large majority on their line in the continued negotiations. Rules for the use of facial recognition, increased protection for consumers and requirements for risk assessments from developers are included.

The aim is for the new legislation to enter into force from 2026. There is concern that the development is moving too quickly, says SVT's Europe correspondent David Boati. "How do we know that a future superintelligence wants us humans well?" he asks. "Risks must be more tightly regulated," he adds.
