Volkov is considered one of Navalny's closest confidants. He is calling for protests in the presidential elections in Russia. The background to the attack is unclear, but Volkov lives in a somewhat remote village, says Meduza, which is critical of the Kremlin.. The perpetrator could hardly be a random street hooligan or robber, said journalist Sergei Parchomenko. "This is a person who went there to attack Volkov," he said.
