More than 2,000 more beds are needed in Swedish hospitals. The number of beds in hospitals has decreased from 520 to just over 460 in the last decade.

The National Board of Health and Welfare says the shortage is "alarming" and needs to be addressed. The need to increase the number of hospital beds is "urgent," says the NBOH. The NBOW says the need to improve the quality of care in hospitals is "vital" to the health of the nation.
