Namibia's President Hage Geingob has died, and now his former deputy Nangolo Mbumba has taken over until the next elections. The new deputy will be a woman – the first to hold this position.

Parliamentary and presidential elections are scheduled for November in Namibia. The politician from the ruling party, the South West African People's Organization (SWAPO), has already held various positions, including as finance and education minister.
