Myanmar: Military junta enacts law on multi-year military service. Objectors face up to five years in prison.

The law should apply immediately. On February 1, 2021, the military overthrew the government of Nobel Peace Prize winner Aung San Suu Kyi, which had been elected with a large majority the year before. The junta that has ruled since then has taken tough action against opposition members; according to activists, more than 21,000 people have already been arrested.
