Moldova's breakaway region of Transnistria has asked for help from Moscow. Moldova is weakening the region economically through an imposed blockade.

Russia supports the separatist region of the Republic of Moldova. Around 1,500 Russian soldiers are stationed in the area that belongs to Moldova under international law. But accession to Russia will not be applied for, according to the Russian agency Tass. The former Soviet republic is worried about Russian destabilization and has accused Russia of planning a coup.
