MFA: Chisinau did not send notices to the CIS about its intention to leave the Commonwealth. On January 24, it was reported that the Moldovan government had terminated eight agreements with the CIS in the fields of energy and defense.

The country's opposition Social Party condemned this step. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Pankin said secession from the Commonwealth is the sovereign right of the state. If such a decision is made, it will cause regret, but “it is unlikely to significantly affect the work of the CIS”
