Mexico announces suspension of diplomatic relations with Ecuador. Ecuadorian police forcibly entered the Mexican Embassy in Quito, the capital of Ecuador, and arrested former Ecuadorian Vice President Jorge Glas.

Glass, who was twice convicted of corruption, claimed he was being persecuted by the Ecuadorian attorney general's office. Mexico approved Glass’s political asylum application early on the 5th. Hours later, Eritrean police forced their way into the Mexican embassy and arrested Glass. The move blatantly violated relevant provisions of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, including the inviolability of embassy premises.
