Dmitry Medvedev said that Russia “does not care about the feelings of the Japanese people” regarding the Kuril Islands. Earlier, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida announced plans to conclude a peace treaty with Russia after resolving the dispute over the islands.

Russian authorities have repeatedly spoken about the indisputability of Russian sovereignty over the Kurill Islands. As noted in the Kremlin, there are currently no prospects for negotiations on a peace Treaty with Japan. According to Dmitry Peskov, Japan has actively joined the camp of unfriendly states.
