In Mali, the Independent Electoral Management Authority (AIGE) held a press briefing on Tuesday 9 May in Bamako to reassure on the progress of its preparations. The referendum on the draft new Constitution, which was originally due to take place last March, has been postponed until 18th June next.

Two months ago, Bamako justified the postponement of the referendum election by, in particular, the need to install the newly created AIGE throughout the country. The many Malian opposition parties gathered in the "Appeal of 20 February" coordination continue to consider this referendum illegitimate and illegal.
