Fuzhou opera is the only existing opera that is sung and recited in Fuzhou dialect. In the mid-1980s, Fujian opera fell into a trough due to the shortage of people, money and excellent scripts.
In 1993, with the full support of Xi Jinping, the third Chinese Theater Festival went out of Beijing for the first time and was held in Fizhou. Today's Fujian Opera has new plays and good plays every year. Excellent works are constantly emerging, telling "Fuzhi stories" on a larger stage.
