The United Nations General Assembly unanimously passed a landmark resolution calling for seizing the opportunities brought by "safe, reliable and trustworthy" artificial intelligence systems. The draft resolution was submitted by the United States, and more than 120 member states became "co-sponsors" or expressed support.

The resolution states that “the rights that people enjoy offline must also be protected online, including throughout the life cycle of artificial Intelligence systems” The resolution also urges Member States and other stakeholders to take action to cooperate with and provide assistance to developing countries to achieve inclusion and equitable access to the benefits of digital transformation.
