Israel's parliament has approved the so-called "Al-Jazeera law" It allows foreign TV channels to be closed if they are deemed to pose a risk to state security. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that he would immediately work to close Al Jazeera after the law was approved.

Similar efforts have failed in the past. Al Jazeera firmly rejects the allegations and accuses Israel of systematically targeting the channel's employees in the Gaza Strip. The channel regularly shows videos from Hamas's military wing, the Qassam Brigades, often of attacks on Israeli soldiers.
