Israeli Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir visited the Temple Mount in Jerusalem on Sunday. The visit sparked fierce criticism from Jordan, the Palestinian Authority and the United States.
The Temple Mount with the Dome of the Rock and the Al-Aqsa Mosque is the third holiest site in Islam. It is also sacred to Jews because there used to be two Jewish temples there. The Palestinians fear that Israel wants to expand its control of the holy site, which Muslims revere as Al-Haram al-Sharif.
