International mission in Haiti: “The gangs are waiting to see what it will look like”. Nairobi agreed to take the lead in helping the Haitian police fight against gangs.
The project was suspended by a court decision but a bilateral agreement could resolve the situation. The United States has said it will provide $200 million for the operation, but the U.S. Congress has yet to approve the contribution. If everyone is specially trained for urban combat and is well equipped, then the force could change the balance of power between the Haitian security forces and the gangs.
