Indigenous Baduy community in Indonesia has asked to cut off the internet in its region. They want to "reduce the negative impact of smartphones and the virtual world" on its population.

Officials in Banten province's Lebak district said they had agreed to hold talks with Indonesia's information ministry to try to accommodate the request. The Baduys, reclusive inside the country, chose to live in the forest and reject technology, money and traditional education. The issue of internet freedom in Indonesia, a conservative country with a Muslim majority, is controversial.
