President Macky Sall opens a "national dialogue" aimed at reducing political tensions in Senegal. Tensions are growing in the run-up to a verdict against opponent Ousmane Sonko.

The presidential election of February 2024 is in the background. The government and the camp of Sonko blame each other for the tensions. The dialogue is boycotted by part of the opposition. It is supposed to ease these tensions and associating the presidential camp, the opposition, representatives of economic circles, civil society and religions.
