This Sunday, March 10, Tibetans commemorate the 65th anniversary of the exile of the Dalai Lama. The Dalai Lama fled the Tibetan capital Lhasa, fearing for his life after Chinese soldiers put down the uprising.

Several hundred gathered in the northern Indian city of Dharamsala. Many Tibetans in exile fear that Beijing will appoint a rival successor to Dalai Lama, thereby strengthening its control over Tibet.. Over the centuries, Tibet has alternated between independence and control by China, which claims to have “  peacefully liberated ” this rugged territory.
