U.S. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy refused to hold a special event on Nakba Day at the House headquarters.

A Senate room hosted the event organized by Palestinian-born Democratic Representative Rashida Tlaib. The event aimed to introduce Congress and Americans to what the Nakba means to millions of Palestinians, especially as the Palestinian people continue to suffer. A group of two thousand rabbis called on McCarthy to condemn and stop the event, and he canceled it late Tuesday. He said he would instead organize an event to mark the 75th anniversary of the U.S.-Israel relationship.
