The execution of the man took place in broad daylight in the city of Maragha in the province of East Azerbaijan. The convict had been arrested about five years ago and then found guilty of offenses related to his relationships with women.

The execution shows the "true face of a government that ensures its survival with cruelty, humiliation and intimidation of society," says IHR Director Mahmood Amiry-Moghaddam. According to IHR, 278 people have already been executed in Iran since the beginning of the year.
