There are about 1.9 billion Muslims around the world, roughly 25% of the world's population. For many, rising food prices mean that families have had to consider cutting back on some of their favorite Ramadan dishes.
To find out the extent of the increase in the prices of various ingredients over the past year, Al Jazeera compared prices of traditional meals from a variety of major supermarket chains in 14 countries. The cost of an individual meal in Argentina is estimated at 7,200 pesos ($8.4) today, compared to about 1,782 peso ($2) in 2023.
