The Arontorp rose was discovered by Carl Linnaeus in 1741. The area where the flowers have now been dug up has been a nature reserve since 1977.

The flower was found in Strandhagen Nature Reserve in Mörbylånga municipality on Öland. It is a very rare flower that is found only in this area.
