Hemophilia is a genetic bleeding disorder in which blood doesn't clot properly. It can lead to spontaneous bleeding or bleeding after injury or surgery.

The blood contains many proteins called clotting factors that can help stop bleeding. People with hemophilia have low levels of factor VIII (8)] or factor IX (9) The lower the amount of the factor, the more likely it is to bleed. Treatment is to replace the missing blood clotting factor so that the blood clots properly.
