Head of the UN emergency relief office Griffiths announces his resignation. He negotiated the grain agreement between Russia and Ukraine and coordinated aid for the Gaza Strip.
Griffiths previously served as UN special envoy to Yemen and advisor to various UN special envoys to Syria. Last month he called on the UN Security Council to enforce "the ban on starving the civilian population as a method of war" and called for an end to the use of starvation as a weapon of war in the Middle East. The 72-year-old is considered one of the most high-profile UN representatives.
