The leaders of the Hezbollah and Hamas movements held a meeting on Sunday in Lebanon's capital Beirut. The intention was to discuss the readiness of the "axis of resistance against Israel," according to a statement from Hezbollah.

Ismail Haniyeh, who heads Palestinian Hamas, arrived in Beirut on Wednesday. Hamas, which has ruled Gaza since 2007, is designated a terrorist group by, among others, the EU. Hezbollah, an Islamist Shiite Muslim movement in Lebanon with close ties to Iran, isdesignated a terrorist organization by the United States.
