Guterres is disturbed by the possibility of Israel launching a military operation in Rafah. Half of Gaza’s population is now crammed into Rafah, with nowhere to go, no homes, and no hope.

The UN official once again called for an immediate ceasefire on humanitarian grounds and the unconditional release of detainees in Gaza. This must quickly lead to irreversible measures towards a two-state solution based on UN resolutions, international law and previous agreements, Guterres told the UN General Assembly.
