Green ministers Katja Meier and Josefine Paul want to get married. Meier is Justice Minister in Saxony, Paul is Equal Opportunities Minister in North Rhine-Westphalia.

“It’s less about the political gesture – love is the foundation,” explained the two Green politicians. Marriage for all was introduced in the summer of 2017 after then-Chancellor Angela Merkel spoke out in favor of a vote without party group pressure in the Bundestag. In the first five years since then, 65,600 marriages were concluded between people of the same sex.
