Government decides on shelter development policy; new facilities in 5 municipalities in Okinawa. The development policy states that it is necessary to strengthen measures to protect the residents of the neighboring Sakishima Islands.
The plan is to create new shelters in three municipalities that will be designated as "Specified Temporary Evacuation Facilities" The government has designated more than 56,000 locations such as sturdy buildings across the country as "emergency temporary evacuation facilities" doing. the government intends to work with local governments and other entities to materialize the development policy.
