Ginkgo biloba sent from Hiroshima escapes fatal damage from Chilean forest fires. This tree was grown from ginkgo seeds that survived the atomic bombing of Hiroshima in 1945.

A large-scale wildfire that occurred mainly on the coast of Chile in South America caused major damage, especially in mountainous areas. 131 people have been confirmed dead so far. The country's largest national botanical garden, located in the central Viña del Mar, was largely destroyed by the wildfire, resulting in the loss of four people.
